Motorized Blinds Offer Effortless Control of Daylight and Privacy

Bring the Beauty of Diffuse Sunlight Into Your Home with Motorized Blinds

Home automation has transformed how we manage our homes. Gone are the light switches in every room and the cords dangling from shades and blinds. Now, with one touch on an in-wall keypad, touchscreen, or remote, your shades raise and lower, your lights dim and brighten, and your “Good Morning” playlist streams through your home.

Smart homes, however, offer much more than one-touch control of shades, lighting, climate, entertainment, security, and more. These homes are automated, operating throughout the day without any effort on our part. One example of this remarkable technology is motorized blinds

Let’s explore how smart blinds and shades make life a little easier and more enjoyable in Seattle, WA, and the surrounding areas.

Automated Control

At Elite Automation, we partner with industry leaders who remain on the cutting edge of technology. Lutron has led the pack in lighting and shade control, continually making advancements since they manufactured the world’s first solid-state light dimmer in the 1950s. In 2020, they came out with automated window blinds that can take advantage of natural light as the sun moves throughout the day.

These blinds are equipped with a natural light optimization feature. As the sun transverses across the sky, the blinds automatically open and close, letting in just enough diffuse sunlight to bring in the benefits of natural light without damaging flooring and furniture with direct sunlight. As the blinds adjust throughout the day, they maximize daylight and minimize fading.

For example, in the morning, the blinds facing East tilt to minimize the direct glare of the sun while the remaining blinds shift to the maximum view position. In the afternoon, they adjust to fight fading, protecting fine artwork and furnishings from harmful UV rays. Then, in the evening, they close, providing total privacy. These blinds are made of North American basswood and come in numerous colors and different decorative tape fabrics.

The World of Shading

Lutron also offers motorized shades and draperies. These provide elegance and ease of use, coming in numerous styles and over 1,400 fabrics. While some of our clients opt for a continuous window design throughout their homes, others choose different materials and styles, while maintaining the same theme. The company’s popular Palladiom Shading System offers a look of modern, sleek elegance with no fascia, pocket, or recess. Other options include roller shades, horizontal sheer blinds, roman shades, and draperies.

These window coverings raise and lower throughout the day based on the sun's rays, temperature, and scheduling. For instance, some of our clients enjoy the view at sunset. In these homes, we'll program the shades on the west-facing windows to open just before sunset and lower when darkness falls. As the shades adjust, the lights dim or brighten, providing the perfect lighting environment in occupied rooms while minimizing electricity usage. Then, when it's time for bed, tap the "Good Night" button, and every shade lowers, the lights dim, and the doors lock.

At Elite Automation, we specialize in customized home automation and high-performance audio and video, creating a life of luxury for our clients and enhancing their everyday lives.
